Do you know someone in your local community whom you would like to engage as your support worker.  Participants who are plan or self-managed have the freedom to engage almost anyone with an ABN.  Engaging your own supports gives you maximum choice and control over your NDIS services and is an innovative way of overcoming staff shortages.  For example, you may live in a rural area where services are few and far between; or you may want to engage a support worker who speaks your language and/or shares your passion and interests.    

Whatever the reason - engaging an Independent Contractor puts you firmly in the driver’s seat because you get to decide who you work with, and what services are provided.  You can also get more bang for your buck by making your NDIS budget stretch further.
